Four United States Army chaplains were on board the USAT Dorchester on the night of February 3rd. They were the Methodist Reverend George L. Fox, Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, the Roman Catholic Priest John P. Washington and the Reformed Church in America Reverend Clark V. Poling.

A number of his songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the civil rights and anti-war movements.
He has received numerous awards including Grammy, Golden Globe and Academy Awards.
